The reports are designed to be easy to use and understand. We use a grading and colour coding system so that users can quickly see performance in the various indicators.

We use Alps benchmarks with which to compare performance. Our benchmarks are typically kept for 3-4 years to allow schools and colleges to compare performance over time against a stable benchmark. This is unique to Alps. Our new A level benchmark uses the complete 2010 national data set from the Department for Education, so you are comparing yourself against the nation.

There are levels of analysis in the reports. We include the following performance indicators, each one is graded and colour coded for easy interpretation:

  • Analysis of students banded by ability – shows a school or college the spectrum of their intake by prior attainment. We group students by prior GCSE attainment to then measure outcome performance against our benchmarks.
  • Provider A level value added score – The overall score for the school and college taking into account the performance by subject and by student
  • Subject value added scores – the performance by subject, compared to the performance in that subject nationally
  • RED and BLUE teaching & learning grades – the percentage of outcomes in your school or college that fall in the top 25% and bottom 25% as against the national benchmarks
  • T (total) scores – measures the quality of outcomes
  • Student progression score – measures the number of students in each GCSE band that completed two or more AS level qualifications and went on to successfully complete two or more A level qualifications.
  • Single subject reports – each subject’s calculation of Alps grade – essential reading for each subject teacher
  • Student performance report – full report showing summary of each student’s performance in your school or college
  • Student performance – progression report – full report summary of the students who did complete 2 or more AS levels but did not complete 2 or more A levels. This allows internal discussion on why these students are in this report.
