Alps™ for schools and colleges
We can provide 3 Alps reports for your school or college, for A level, AS level or BTEC National results. The Alps report can be used as a tool for improvement and can help you identify strengths and weaknesses in your institution.
Analysis - Reports
Alps reports are a statistical analysis of an institution's A level, AS level or BTEC National results and show a school or college how it is performing against a national benchmark for each. The reports give a clear and detailed analysis of the performance of an institution as compared to these national benchmarks.
What is included in the Alps reports?
The reports include clear analysis, graphs and colour-coded charts. They show the overall performance of the institution, the performance of each subject department and the individual performance of each student, as measured by incoming GCSE/QCA points. You will receive two bound hard copies of each report and two electronic copies in Acrobat format. The electronic copies allow the report to be placed on a school or college intranet to allow staff access to the report. Extra copies of the reports can also be printed using the electronic copy.
What data do schools/colleges need to submit in order to receive the reports?
The Alps Data Collection Software (ADCS) is used to collect the data needed to produce the Alps reports. Specific data is needed to process the reports for each year group, for example student ID, student names, subjects taken, grades achieved and average GCSE scores (or QCA scores). It is requested that a school or college that would like an Alps report submit their data using this software.
Summary of an Alps A-level report
The report gives a clear and detailed analysis of the performance of an institution as compared to national benchmarks. The report includes the following:
- Provider value-added measures - shows the overall performance of the provider against a national dataset of over 1000 providers.
- Subject value-added measures - shows the performance of each subject department against a national dataset for each subject.
- Student performance banded by ability - shows the performance of the students of different ability as measured against incoming GCSE/QCA points score.
- Individual student achievement - shows the performance of each student and compares this to a target grade based on what is happening nationally. This is useful in in-course formative target setting.
- Quality of teaching and learning - shows the percentage of students that achieve the Alps targets and the overall quality of teaching and learning in an institution.
Training
Alps provides bespoke training to schools and colleges. The training is tailored to what the school or college requires. There are three main areas of training that are offered, although these are not exhaustive:
- Leadership: Using Alps strategically
- This is aimed at head teachers and senior staff and looks at the way the Alps approach, vision and values can be integrated into an institution.
- Target setting, Monitoring, Guidance and Support
- This is aimed at heads of sixth form and pastoral staff and examines the positive role that monitoring students and staff can have in an institution. The course explains how effective guidance and support systems will complement monitoring and create a positive culture of ongoing improvement.
- Engaging Learners
- This is aimed at heads of department and teachers, and looks at ways to improve the teaching and learning experience for students and staff.
All courses are led by experienced senior staff of education providers that have used Alps systems successfully.
